What is Polypropylene?

What is Polypropylene?

Jun 18, 2020

The raw material of polypropylene yarn is polypropylene. So what is polypropylene? Polypropylene is a Chinese trade name for synthetic fiber isotactic polypropylene fibers made from propylene, a by-product of petroleum refining. Also called polypropylene fiber. The raw materials are abundant, the production process is simple, and the products are relatively cheaper than synthetic fibers. It is a fiber made from propylene as a material through polymerization and melt spinning. Polypropylene officially began industrial production in 1957 and is a rising star among synthetic fibers. Because polypropylene has a simple production process, low price, high strength, and relatively light density, polypropylene has developed quickly. At that time, polypropylene was already the fourth largest category of synthetic fibers, and it was the most common type of chemical fiber. The production of polypropylene fiber includes short fiber, filament and split film fiber. Polypropylene membrane fiber is made by first making polypropylene into a film, and then stretching the film to make it into a network of fibrils.
